Caring for wool covers
Your wool cover will require up to three treatments of lanolin before it will be fully waterproofed. Hand wash wool covers and pants using olive oil soap or wool shampoo, making sure any Velcro fastenings are secured. We recommend the soap to remove stains. You will need to wash then every one to two weeks or when dirty. Treat with lanolin (wool cure) every three to four washes to maintain waterproofing. To do this, take a teaspoon of "wool cure", dissolve in hot water and then add enough warm water to soak the cover. Leave the cover to soak for a couple of hours or overnight and then air dry. There is no need to rinse the nappy before drying. A cheaper way to apply lanolin is to take a teaspoon of pure lanolin, add it to a cup of soapy water (1/2 teaspoon of mild liquid detergent, such as Ecover Delicate, mixed with water is best) and heat in a microwave oven until it has melted. This can then be used as a wool cure, adding enough warm water to soak the cover. This is an excellent way of using up an old tube of Lansinoh nipple cream.
